Marta Afonso

Marta Afonso

Marta Afonso was born and raised in Porto, the second largest city in Portugal. She started teaching in 2007, as a Lecturer of Portuguese at the Université de Provence, France, and later as an Assistant of Linguistics at the University of Porto. She has since taught all kinds of classes, at all levels, including in corporate environments and to military personnel. Marta also spent 8 years as a volunteer teaching Portuguese to migrants relocating to Porto. This was an enriching experience, allowing her to work with people from very diverse backgrounds all over the world. She is currently a researcher at CLUP (Centre of Linguistics of the University of Porto), and she is completing her PhD in Linguistics at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. She studies Medieval Portuguese and language change, but she is an avid language learner as well: she speaks English, French, Italian and Spanish. Like any typical Portuguese, Marta enjoys being around a table with family and friends, sharing nice food and tasty coffee. She loves travelling, reading, and playing nerdy games.
